At Benon, we believe that beautiful things deserve to be cared for. Our cashmere is woven and made in Biella from pure cashmere, chosen for its softness, warmth and the way it ages.
With thoughtful care, each piece can become a lasting part of your home. As a natural fibre, cashmere softens with time and use, developing a character of its own. A few simple considerations will help preserve its beauty and longevity for many years.
Cleaning
Our cashmere is dry clean only. We recommend a specialist cleaner with experience of fine cashmere, and cleaning only when needed, as each cleaning is a small demand on the fibre.
Do not wash, bleach or tumble dry. Water, heat and agitation may felt the cashmere and alter the hand of the cloth.
If something is spilled, blot gently with a clean, dry cloth and take the piece to your cleaner. Avoid rubbing, which may mark the brushed surface.
Ironing
If desired, iron at a cool temperature with a pressing cloth between the iron and the cashmere, taking particular care around the hand-worked border and the embroidery.
A gentle steam, held at a distance, will release creases without the iron touching the cloth.
Between Uses
Allow your cashmere to rest and air between uses, laid flat or draped, away from direct sunlight and heat.
Brushed cashmere may form small pills where it is handled most. These are natural and can be removed gently by hand or with a cashmere comb.
Storage
Store folded, in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. We recommend a breathable cotton bag rather than plastic, which traps moisture.
Cashmere is a natural fibre and should be stored clean, as moths are drawn to traces of use. Cedar or lavender in the wardrobe is a traditional and gentle deterrent.
